Frieze week and things ahoy

I'm very happy to be included in the next issue of Kaleidoscope magazine with a profile I wrote on Boychild. I've also written a list of highlights of Frieze week and London for their site that should hopefully be up soon (it ended up here on their facebook)

I did a run down of Frieze Week performance events for Artsy, profiled top 4 tech-influenced artist for Postmatter and did a top ten of the best things at the fair this week for Dazed Digital.

I'll also be doing instagram takeovers for Dazed Magazine, Spring Studios and at Roughversion - in case you fancy an immediate, varied tsunami of my week.

And here are 4 pop up things things outside of Frieze London and Frieze Masters that are worth checking out - because the world loves a list.

1) ICA Off-Site: The Old Selfridges Hotel
Anything you can - the programming is spot on.

2) Sunday Art Fair
A defunct website, barely a word to the press and still a fair that should not be missed!

3) PAD
It's my guilty pleasure. Come for a relaxed gawp at 20th century masters and euro-cash spenders

5) 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair
Last year's debut was surprisingly good. A fair not to be forgotten

Venice 2013

Before I went to Venice, these were the ten artists I was excited about (and apparently over 10,000 people read this which is mental).

When I came back these are the works that blew my mind: Best of Venice 2013

These are the things that did not get mentioned in the official story:

Dancing from the minute the music started until 3am on a weird island at Jeremy Deller's incredible party, complete with naked table dancing man (who later put his clothes on, came up to me and knelt in worship at my feet as I danced - as you do); sharing stolen vodka in Le Baron in the Bauer with Anri Sala and Theaster Gates's table; eating asparagus lasagna at Il Paradiso Perduto in Canneregio not once but twice; the amazing Pasticceria Rizzardini beneath our flat for daily macchiati and crostata mele at the bar each morning; hanging out at the Emdash party in a room so rococo it looks like angels vomited and it dried; bumping into half of London at sandwich shops, kebab shops and of course the brilliant Palazzo Peckham; being overwhelmed by beauty at Museo Fortuny

Three things that made me happy this week

1) My E-Vapor-8 show at 319 Scholes in New York last May was mentioned as one of the 10 Pivotal Moments in Digital Art in 2012. Blush.

2) Island Pavillion launched with some rather mouthwatering prints by some good young artists (including a few I have put in past exhibitions and projects Alexander Peverett, Sara Ludy and Petra Cortright) The digital psychedelic Peverett above was obviously my top choice.

3) Mark Leckey is doing a Artist Film Club event at the ICA Jan 9. I bought tickets months ago and am overexcited its almost here.

Last chance in London

I've been missing all these shows in London and intend to see them all this week. Weirdly, Bourgeois aside, they all have a video vibe! I need to start looking at sculpture and paintings again don't I....

Looking for comfort in an uncomfortable chair

I went to the ICA last night to pop by and see "For the blind man in the dark room looking for the black cat that isn't there". I ended up having a lovely evening with what appears to be every Dutch member of the art world in London. At the show itself however i fell in love with this small black and white slide show piece by Bruno Munari. "Looking for comfort in an uncomfortable chair" is pure genius. I think this is something I experience almost daily.

Nought to 60

I was asked to chair a discussion about art, fashion and music during the ICA's 6 month marathon of artists Nought to Sixty

A book of the project and transcriptions of the talks is just out - including me chatting away to Matthew Stone, Craig McCarthy, Christabel Stewart of Hotel gallery and Nina Manandhar.
